Lianne La Havas Reveals Mura Masa-Produced "Can't Fight" Ahead Of Self-Titled Fourth Album

May 21, 2020

After returning to music last year after a brief hiatus, Lianne La Havas has barely paused for breath since. She started this year with a bang, setting in motion plans for her fourth studio album with the release of "Bittersweet" — quickly following it up with a COLORS session and the album's second single "Paper Thin" — and now we have the third single, "Can't Fight".

Despite the track's sunny and upbeat exterior, there's a certain pain — or at least hardship — to her lyrics. Produced and co-written by the impossibly prolific Mura Masa, "Can't Fight" concerns the crossroads we sometimes find ourselves at when a relationship hits the rocks. Knowing whether to stay or go can be a tough decision, but sometimes making the difficult choice to work through those problems can often be the most rewarding.

Going into greater detail, La Havas explains, "You know it's not good, but you can't you can't not do it. People say if you're having a hard time in a relationship, just leave. It's so easy to say, but it's so much more complicated than that. Because there's two of you, and neither of you are perfect. And there are things that you're learning along the way. So you think, Well, let me do a little bit of work and just see if we can get that feeling back — it's possible because we do really love each other. So I guess at the time, I was convinced that yes, it's hard, but we can get through this."

Lianne La Havas' self-titled album drops July 17. Pre-order it here.
