Jorja Smith Returns With Some Surprising Flavours On 'Be Right Back' EP

May 17, 2021

Back in March, after a relatively quiet spell, Jorja Smith returned with her first solo single in a while, "Addicted", quickly following it up with "Gone" and the news that a new EP was on the way. The Be Right Back EP has since arrived and there's a lot to be happy about.

First, it brings with it a slightly different side of Smith; the instrumentals move from eerie string sections to bluesy bass guitars, giving her voice a backdrop we haven't heard from her before. It also features an unexpected turn from the Queen of the South, Shaybo, who drops off some slow and low bars that remind us just how versatile she is as a rapper.

If you remember, when Smith first announced the EP, an accompanying quote seemed to suggest she'd been working on something else as well.

"It's called Be Right Back because it's just something I want my fans to have right now," she explained when she first announced the EP. "This isn't an album and these songs wouldn't have made it. If I needed to make these songs, then someone needs to hear them too."

Does that mean there's a new album in the works? While we all speculate on that, dip into Be Right Back below.
