Jorja Smith Unveils New Single "Gone" Ahead Of 'Be Right Back' EP

April 21, 2021

Trusted for her ability to raise the hairs on the back of your neck, Jorja Smith returns with new single "Gone" as well as the announcement of her new eight-track project, Be Right Back, which is out on May 14.

Following on from her last release, "Addicted" (which also appears on the new collection), "Gone" explores loss and grief and is all but guaranteed to put a lump in your throat. Every vocal chord is caressed with emotion and harmonised with an enchanting, delicate production from producer Rahki.

Sharing her new single, the songwriter said: "There's something about being able to write about one thing and for it to mean so many different things to others. I love that this song, well any of my songs really, will be interpreted in different ways, depending on the experiences of the people listening. This one is just me asking why people have to be taken from us."

Though not a full album, it's the Walsall-born vocalist's first body of work since her three-year-old, well-celebrated debut Lost & Found. The new project includes six additional unheard tracks with a feature from soaring South London rapper, Shaybo.

On the eight-track piece, she added: "It's called Be Right Back because it's just something I want my fans to have right now, this isn't an album and these songs wouldn't have made it. If I needed to make these songs, then someone needs to hear them too."

Hopefully, Jorja will deliver plenty more evocative songs with sparkling productions for us to wallow in. For now, tune in to "Gone" below.

Updated on April 28: the official video has now landed.
