Henrie Kwushue Takes To Dalston For Third And Final Part Of 'Is Your Area Changing?'

October 08, 2020

Following on from her investigations into the gentrification of Brixton and Peckham, Henrie Kwushue is back with the third and final part of her Is Your Are Changing? series, this time heading to Dalston in Hackney.

By now, Dalston is practically a byword for gentrification. Expensive restaurants and nightclubs sit side-by-side with rundown buildings while the famed Ridley Market stalls struggle for survival. Even the first wave of gentrifiers are being pushed out to make way for wealthier residents.

Once again, Henrie takes to the streets to meet some Dalston residents and get to grips with what's happening on the ground. Speaking to a mixture of newcomers and those who've been their for decades, Henrie looks at the contrast between Dalston by day and by night. As she discovers, the nightlife has taken a particular hit in recent years and it's having a knock-on effect throughout the community.
