Since the Windrush in the late 1940s, Brixton has been known as an area with a deep-rooted Caribbean and African cultural influence. However, as time has passed, there has seemingly been an effort to reduce this cultural influence in the form of gentrification.

This issue is tackled brilliantly in the new documentary Brixton… Is Your Area Changing?, as it explores the South London borough's transformation and the extent to which the redevelopment has affected its roots and rich cultural heritage.

Presented by DJ and London 'It Girl' Henrie Kwushue, the short documentary portrays a day in the life of Brixton, featuring various local business owners and residents who explain how they are coping with the rapid changes in the area.

Despite many former residents being priced out of the area by higher rents and the demolition of estates, the people that still reside in Brixton continue to express their pride in the colourfulness and the diversity of the area. One resident explained that, although change must be accepted, "the people that have been in Brixton for years and years need to benefit from the changes taking place," a sentiment that is echoed throughout the film.
