Dave Rounds Up James Blake, Snoh Aalegra, Wizkid And More For 'We're All Alone In This Together'

July 23, 2021

After teasing us with the title and a few other tidbits of detail in a lengthy interview at the top of this month, Dave has now released his second full-length album, We're All Alone In This Together.

Although he normally reserves the big-name team-ups for the singles, this time it's a bit more collaborative. We already knew Stormzy was appearing, but added to that we've got Ghetts, Giggs, Meekz and Fredo on "In The Fire"; Wizkid and BOJ on "System" and "Lazarus", respectively; Snoh Aalegra on "Law Of Attraction"; ShaSimone and James Blake on "Both Sides Of A Smile"; and Jorja Smith on closing track "Survivor's Guilt".

Production-wise, he casts his net even wider. Kyle Evans handles the bulk of production, but James Blake's name also features heavily in the producer credits. Elsewhere, we've got contributions from JAE5, Nana Rogues, P2J, Mount Kimbie, Dominic Maker, as well as a few credits for Dave himself. Fraser T. Smith, it has to be said, is conspicuously absent this time round.

Thematically, We're All Alone In This Together, balances introspection with explorations of South London, its cultural heritage, the patchwork multi-generation stories that pour into the area, and the legacy of colonialism, political ambivalence, disillusionment and much more. He even includes a recording of some words of advice from Daniel Kaluuya recorded when the pair met up in LA earlier this year.

Just like the genre-blending combinations of Afroswing, R&B, rap and beyond, it's a highly detailed and multi-layered effort from Dave—and one that will require quite a bit of time to unpack.

From the moment he first teased snippets of "Verdansk" on Instagram Live last year, it's been a long road to the full release. So sit back, block the world out, and immerse yourself in it below.
