Yussef Dayes Shares 19-Track Jazz Odyssey 'Black Classical Music'

September 11, 2023

Yussef Dayes has been building anticipation for his debut solo album for some months now and we've now been blessed with the 19-track jazz odyssey.

Featuring Masego, Chronixx, Venna, Tom Misch, Rocco Palladino, Jamilah Barry, Shabaka Hutchings, Elijah Fox, Leon Thomas, Barbara Hicks, and his daughter, Bahia Dayes. Black Classical Music boasts a heavyweight roster of musicians, yet Dayes' own expression always comes to the forefront. As a drummer by trade, the album exhibits much of Dayes' best-ever work on a drum set, but it's more than just technical ability. Black Classical Music pulls directly from Dayes' soul, particularly evident in his decision to include his family on the album.

Dayes has been at the forefront of the UK jazz scene for over five years now, and after collaborating and producing for some of the best acts in the world, he's brought the world's attention to that sphere.

Take in the album below.
