North London's YAZ Rids Herself Of A Stifling Relationship On Pop-Garage Gem "Overgrown"

September 21, 2022

North London singer-songwriter YAZ steps up to cut all toxic ties in this two-step bop "Overgrown".

Producer RISC is responsible for the nostalgic, garage-pop beat, delivering a subdued guitar melody and pulsing drums perfect for any two-stepper. YAZ marries the beat with her truthful lyricism, explaining how she's evolved past her latest relationship and is now no longer accepting toxic, unloving behaviour. Still, she lets her lover down lightly, delivering this message over an upbeat production, perhaps an indication of her new-found freedom after cutting ties with negative people.

"'Overgrown' is about moving past a situation you thought you'd never be able to forget," she says of the track. "When that person you once felt dependent on isn't in your life anymore, and you can look back on how you've grown since; it's a really empowering feeling."

Having made her debut just this year with the racy "Mr Valentine", YAZ has arrived with euphoric sounds built around the fabric of London culture. Dig into "Overgrown" below.
