Watch London Collective Ubunifu Space Explore The Sounds Of Kenya And South Africa In New Documentary Series

January 13, 2021

Late 2019, just before the full horrors of 2020 revealed themselves, digital collective Ubunifu Space flew out to Kenya and South Africa to investigate the scenes and sounds that are bubbling up and how they're influencing the UK. What they came back with was a vast stockpile of footage that would become their new online documentary series, UBUONTOUR.

The collective is made up of Bryan Obonyo, Monique Touko, David Osafo, Shay Sade and TRENCH writer Ian Opolot. Now four episodes deep into their eight-part voyage, the five friends have so far explored Johannesburg and Cape Town with future editions scheduled to take us to Durban, Sun City and Nairobi.

More than just a travelogue, the series also sees them speak to local talents Riky Rick, Moonchild Sanelly, Cassper Nyovest, Busiswa, Sho Madjozi, DJ Maphorisa, Shekhinah and Youngsta CPT.

"We wanted to create a full circle," says founder Bryan Obonyo, "We'd learned a lot from watching videos but we wanted to fly out to experience the music, the culture and interact with the artists and followers who share our enthusiasm."

Hit play on episode one below and then head to their channel to catch the rest of the episodes, which are uploaded weekly.
