Unknown T Blurs The Boundaries Between Rap And Drill On 'Rise Above Hate'

July 20, 2020

Since his release from prison, it seems like Unknown T has been on a one-man mission to take a seat at the top of the rap game. Now he's released his new project, Rise Above Hate, and it sets the scene for his plans to shape the future of UK drill.

On this 16-track project, Unknown T stretches the boundaries of drill, playing with different rhyme schemes and sonics to show the versatility of the genre. The tape also contains some stellar features from both the rap and drill scenes, including appearances from M Huncho, Young T & Bugsey, AJ Tracey, Young Adz, KO and V9.

The Homerton rapper's trademark delivery is prominent throughout the whole tape and he expertly manoeuvres it to set the tone for each track. On "Deh Deh", for example, he spits his rapid-fire rhymes over the kind of heavy, 808-filled production that we're used to hearing him on, whereas on "Leave Dat Trap" he links up with AJ to shell down a more laid back beat with just as much energy.

Rise Above Hate has shown us that Unknown T is not just the future of rap, but the future of UK music.
