Uncle John's Bakery CEO And Former Rapper Samuel Mensah Has Passed Away

January 28, 2021

This morning the tragic news that Samuel Mensah, aka Xploder, has passed away from Coronavirus was shared.

Although grime heads will remember him fondly for his days as Xploder, many more will know him as the face of Uncle John's Bakery, as a leading figure in his community, and as a loving father.

Born in Clapton, he initially made his name as a promising grime MC with Channel U hits like "They Don't Know" and a memorable appearance on "Mission Riddim" alongside Scrufizzer, Lady Lykez, Roachee, Maxsta, Zeph Ellis and his brother D Dark.

In recent years Mensah had taken over his parents' Tottenham-based, Ghanaian bakery, guiding the company as CEO and winning praise throughout the business world, earning a place in the finals of the Black British Business Awards and in depth profile in an issue of Time Out magazine guest edited by Ashley Walters.

Throughout the day Twitter and Instagram have been flooded with messages from friends and fans whose lives Mensah touched, a testament to his character and his legacy as a person.

Rest in power, Samuel.
