Two Teenage Survivors Of Grenfell Release Tribute Song "Fire In Grenfell"

June 13, 2018

This week marks a year since the Grenfell Tower tragedy, which saw 72 people killed, 70 injured, and left hundreds more either homeless or missing. As the inquest continues, and with the search for justice stronger than ever, many continue to pay tribute and hold in their memories those that were lost in the fire.

One such tribute comes from Yousra Cherbika and Johara Menacer, two 13-year-old survivors of the fire, who have worked with Grenfell Voices to make a video for their song "Fire In Grenfell". Both girls lost their friends Firdaws Hashim, 12, and Nur Huda El-Wahabi, 16 in the horrific events of June 14 2017, while Yousra also lost her home.

Singing over the familiar instrumental of Emeli Sandé and Professor Green's "Read All About It", the two chose the song because Firdaws once sang it in a talent competition, although they wrote original lyrics to commemorate and share their feelings about the tragedy.
