Stormzy Donates £500,000 To Black Heart Foundation To Get More Disadvantaged Students Into University

Back in June it was announced that over the next 10 years Stormzy would be donating £10million to various Black charities and foundations — which BBC Children In Need promised to match — and he's already making good on that promise with the first pledge.

The Croydon rapper has donated £500,000 to the Black Heart Foundation, a charity that offers scholarships and grants to students from Black and Asian backgrounds (although they make clear that anyone from a disadvantaged background is welcome to apply). The organisation has said that the donation will go towards funding higher or further education places for 50 students.

Black Heart Foundation founder Ric Lewis commented: "Their contribution is an amazing testament to their vision and commitment to higher and further education for ambitious, hardworking young people from the most under-resourced and under-represented communities in our society. With their support we will reach another 50 young people, taking the total number of scholars we can help to 250."

The timely donation arrives in the wake of the recent news that nearly 40% of all A Level results were marked down from teachers predictions, a statistic that was found to be weight heavily against state schools and pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
