Sound City Announce RIP IT UP Bursaries For POC Students In North West England To Attend Six-Month Course

January 20, 2021

Liverpool's Sound City has announced the launch of RIP IT UP, a bursary programme providing valuable support to the next generation of young artists, specifically POC applicants aged 18-25 from the North West of England. The aim, they say, is to provide a platform and direction for young and up-coming talent, nurturing their growth and helping them make an impact on the music industry.

There is without doubt an existing disparity in the music industry in regard to racial equality, and RIT IT UP endeavour to address this chasm through action rather than words alone. RIP IT UP, along with Youth Music, sm-mgmt and CAPLL LTD, have worked together to form a direct programme pushing for change — offering 10 important bursaries that provide a framework for young talent to enter the music industry. A vitally important endeavour, they hope the programme will mobilise those who would otherwise come up against barriers.

The programme will consist of eight sessions, covering areas within the music industry from campaign strategies, publicity and management to recording, production, distribution and more. Confirmed speakers include Gorillaz bass player Seye Adelekan, rock duo Nova Twins, Facebook’s Global Client Partner Vanessa Bakewell, Killing Moon MD Achal Dhillon, Liam James Ward of digital agency Be-Hookd Digital with more to be announced.

Applications are now open. Head here to apply and make sure you do so before the February 15 deadline.
