Slowthai Prepares For Debut Album With Refreshing Drop "Rainbow"

October 11, 2018

Following on from his acclaimed RUNT EP that was released last month and included tracks such as the stand-out "Drug Dealer", Northampton's slowthai is back again, continuing an outstanding year with a new track in "Rainbow", produced by frequent collaborators Kwes Darko and JD Reid.

In fact, the aforementioned pair were the only producers on the EP so it's unknown if this is a track that didn't make the project or something entirely different, but either way the song sees slowthai explore some intricate ideas regarding race and identity, and how it can be used to oppress and control, through his complex blend of grime, rap and in this case, spoken word too.

The visual representation of his message is equally as bold and direct as his lyrics—with one clip showing slowthai turning into King Kong. With his as-yet-untitled debut album set to be released early next year, it's the rapper's unflinching willingness to speak up about topics that many artists would shy away from in his own distinct and creative way, that has seen him amass the following that he has thus far.

It's anyone's guess what we can expect from the LP, but until we hear more, you can watch the "Rainbow" video down below.
