Slackk's Legendary Grimetapes.com Has Been Reincarnated In Label Form

April 18, 2019

A decade after it posted its last grime set, Slackk's grimetapes.com is returning once more but this time as a label. Its first release is set to be a retrospective album from South London producer Nammy Wams, consisting of drill and R&G tracks recorded between 2013 and 2018.

Although Grime Tapes did come back briefly in 2012 as a Tumblr site, Slackk's pirate radio platform was a legendary resource for grime heads back in the day, collecting recordings from stations such as Rinse, Deja Vu, Raw Mission, Axe and Freeze between 2003 and 2009. Since most of those stations only broadcast in London, it was an absolutely essential point of access for people outside the capital.

Its revival as a label signals its evolution and willingness to evolve with the times, and the first album release, Yellow Secret Technology, will be released on April 26.
