Shaybo Salutes Her Nigerian Roots With A Tour Round Her Block On "Dobale"

October 19, 2020

Catford rhymer Shaybo has been carving out a formidable reputation in the rap world for some years now and today she continues to assert herself in the scene with "Dobale", which follows recent anthems "Come For Shay" and "Anger". As is befitting of the self-professed 'Queen of the South", Shaybo's delivers anecdotes of her upbringing with confidence and charisma.

"Dobale", which is Yoruba for "gesture of respect", pays homage to her Nigerian roots with the enticing flute melody of Guilty Beatz's low-tempo production and shots of Shay and her team in traditional attire. We also get insight into her South London experiences as we follow her round the block, watching her get her hair done and hitting up the local shop.

Shaybo says, "The song 'Dobale' is about me representing the Nigerian culture. As October is Black History Month and the 60th anniversary of Nigeria's independence I wanted to use this song to show my appreciation of my heritage. I use Yoruba, which is one of the many languages spoken in Nigeria, but mix it with UK slang and incorporate British culture".
