Self-Styled "Villainous Trailblazer" Denzel Himself Returns With Immersive 'Baphomet James' EP

Self-Styled "Villainous Trailblazer" Denzel Himself Returns With Immersive 'Baphomet James' EP

April 30, 2018

Last year, South London rapper Denzel Himself released his powerful and energetic debut album Pleasure, a 10-track statement of intent that marked him out as a dominating force on the mic.

Now he's making a return with the Baphomet James EP, a much more introspective and laid-back venture than the album, but still marked by his dark, gothic influences. The first taste of the EP came with the video for "Melty", featuring KEYAH/BLU, one of the more soulful moments of the EP and a sign that the coming EP would be very different from previous output.

As for the rest of the EP, the framework of laid-back, hazy darkness remains a constant. To that, Denzel adds hypnotic experimentalism ("Lessroll"), R&B ("Melty"), minimalism ("Navy") and jazz ("Gettin' Rich"). There's so much more to the Baphoment James EP than that, though, so look into it for yourself below.
