Broken Beat Duo SAUL Combine With Lex Amor For Heavenly "Flowers"

July 22, 2022

Over the past couple of years, SAUL, the duo made up of Jack Stephenson-Olivier of experimental group Vels Trio and producer Barney Whittaker (aka Footshooter), have been creating a collaborative space together, bringing together some of their favourite producers, musicians and artists for cathartic jam sessions. Ahead of their upcoming, jazz-tinged Mutualism EP, they've shared "Flowers", their mystical collaboration with poet and rapper Lex Amor.

With her hair-raising tone, she flows with introspective reminders that things always get better even in the midst of life's trials. While she shares her thoughts on eventually finding resolution after dark days, the duo's percussion collides in polyrhythmic timing against a bed of woozy synths that rise and fall like deep breaths.

Commenting on the collaboration, Lex Amor shares: "'Flowers' is about things getting better. The unshakeable pattern of redemption. Through life, through relationships, over time. Shit gets better—it's about the flowers blooming—even on the bad years."

Mutualism is set to arrive August 19 with features from musicians like aden, Natty Wylah, 30/70's Allysha Joy, and Ezra Collective saxophonist James Mollison.
