Rising Northampton Rapper DeBe Makes His Mark With Debut EP 'The Life Of Reilly'

December 19, 2019

Earlier this year, we profiled "Blu Skye" by Northampton rhymer DeBe, marking him out as a serious talent with big plans for the rap game. Now, six months later, and the 23-year-old's making good on those promises with his debut EP, The Life Of Reilly.

Keeping it short and sweet at six tracks, The Life Of Reilly is produced largely by GreenTea Peng and slowthai collaborator Earbuds, with Nick French, Sammy Bryne and Baga handling the rest. Each track is centred around a particular emotion, ranging from the frustration of street life to the politically-charged anger of "Nuffin Long", all explored over beats that tread the line between frosty street rap and chugging, bass-heavy grime.

Speaking on his mindset when making the EP, DeBe explained: "When it came to making music myself, I always took pride in keeping things original; being so critical, I guess that's how I've been able to develop my own style. I had a lot of other stuff going on outside of music that affected me in different ways on different days in the booth, so it was all therapy for me."

Let's hope this momentum continues through 2020.
