Rebecca Garton Lets Her Vocals Shine Through On Debut "Always"

June 11, 2018

Ghanaian-born Rebecca Garton may be a familiar name after her appearance on Krept & Konan's record-breaking debut album The Long Way Home, but after taking time out to work on her craft, she is now back with her debut single "Always", taken from her debut EP Take Me Home (due for release later this summer).

"Always" is a stripped-back number, one that allows Rebecca's sass-laden vocals shine through. Accompanied by a hazy, technicolour visual adding to the song's nostalgic feel—lyrically, the track is a nod to female fun, freedom, and empowerment. Having grown up in Nigeria before moving to London at 17, the singer's unique multicultural identity is one of the prominent themes of the project, and while she's opted to showcase R&B for her debut single, other influences include bashment and dancehall.
