Ray BLK's "Run Run" Examines The Rise In Youth Violence And Police Brutality

August 09, 2018

As fans, we often get nervy when our favourite artists sign major label deals for fear of their music becoming more mainstream or moving away from what we loved about them in the first place. It seems that fans of Ray BLK can put those fears to rest as she presents her first single since signing with Island Records, as well as her first solo single of 2018, "Run Run".

Directed by Tom Green, the video for "Run Run" captures the essence of the sort of situations many young black people find themselves in, such as violence, threats and police brutality. Lyrically, Ray BLK explores the rising murder rates in London, and channels the anguish and emotion through her own personal experiences of growing up in what can be harsh environments in South East London

Speaking about the track, she said: "The stories from 'Run Run' are real life events that I have experienced. I wrote the song as a reminder to everyone listening, not to become a product of their environment. They have the choice to better themselves and rise above their struggles."
