Ray BLK Drops Revenge Anthem "Lovesick"

October 19, 2020

South East London's Ray BLK has just dropped the smooth visuals for her new R&B jam "Lovesick", focusing on the volatile nature of relationships.

"'Lovesick' is a revenge song," Ray explains. "It's about taking control and reclaiming your power after being disrespected in a relationship and getting even. I'm always trying to empower women not to take disrespect sitting down but to keep a distance from people who don't make them feel good about themselves and boss up because success is the best revenge."

"Lovesick" will feature on Ray BLK's as-yet-untitled forthcoming debut album (due early 2021) following the Durt and Empress EPs and a string of singles. The new cut fuses aspects of R&B with crisp vocals that give way to a burst of trap-influenced rap flows with occasional auto-tune, demonstrating her versatility and giving us a snapshot of what the upcoming project could sound like.

"Relationships are a big theme of not just this song but my overall debut album," she adds. "Even me rapping on this song was me taking back control. As a black female artist in the UK there's a lot less support all round, including getting features from other artists. After finding it so difficult I just said 'fine, forget that then, I can actually do a better verse than a lot of these guys.'"

The sleek, Labi-directed visuals, which come with a cool hue and saturated tones, demonstrate a strong sense of female empowerment, which has long been Ray BLK's ethos as an artist.
