Rasharn Powell Makes A Welcome Return With Sultry "Raving In Our Bedroom"
Rasharn Powell returns from his 18-month hiatus to treat us to "Raving In Our Bedroom", a slow-paced and searching cut that delves into personal and societal ills through the lens of a relationship.
"Deport me, deport us", he says, capturing feelings of rejection due to his race. Later, he speaks on the pressures of the outside world on his relationship, and how he's found a safe space for them both in their bedroom.
"There's a truth we must face when in our bedrooms," he explains. "That inner truth is specific to each and every one of us, and others may be able to empathise with it but not always comprehend it. By God's grace, the story I'm about to take the world on is one of ascension, but I can only do so through narrating my personal conviction and sins."
The sticky, sensual production, courtesy of Tropics, leans into the feeling of an intimate and safe space with its rattling tambourine, curling guitar. and laboured drums.
The East London artist has spent time away from music and away from London since his last releases. "Raving In Our Bedroom" is hopefully a sign of a return from Rasharn.
