Don't Confuse Poppy Ajudha's Vulnerability For "Weakness"

January 28, 2021

South Londoner Poppy Ajudha's back with her first drop of the year and it comes with some self-directed visuals. "Weakness" is a bright and breezy affair, adding a hint of flamenco to her jazz-oriented sound, but there's a bittersweet quality to it. As she explains in more detail below, "Weakness" is about the feeling of vulnerability that comes with falling for someone and the struggle to stay in control in spite of it all.

Funnily enough, for the visuals Ajudha's absolutely in control. Making herself at home in the director's chair, every aspect of the video was down to her. From the DIY surrealism of the giant sweets that surround her to the eye-popping bursts of colour that fill every last shot, this is 100% Poppy Ajudha.

Explaining more about the track's meaning, Poppy said: "'Weakness' is a song about love. About feeling out of control and at the mercy of someone else because of how crazy they make you feel, but also feeling bittersweet about it, because you're a bad b*tch and you don't have time for that ish.

"Self-directing was really fun. I'm a control freak so it was great to get stuck into all the facets of making a music video. Choosing the team, the makeup looks, directing the styling ideas, writing the narrative, working out how to build the set. It definitely felt like a challenge to direct, star in and perform choreographed moves for the first time but I love to push myself and am really glad I did."
