Om Unit Explores The Crossover Potential Of Dub And Acid On "Treading Earth"
At various points in his career, Om Unit's sonic palette has taken in turntablist hip-hop, footwork, jungle, electro, dubstep and a number of sounds that don't really have a name. For his latest outing, Acid Dub Studies, he's delving into the dual worlds of acid and dub for a project the Bristol-based producer describes as "an album of 303-centric dub music".
Ahead of the album's full release on February 19, he's revealed lead single "Treading Earth" that highlights both genres' immersive soundscapes and hypnotising rhythms. The crossover potential of acid and dub is something that's been touched on by various producers of the years (particularly by the likes of Adrian Sherwood who the producer cites as a key influence on the album), but Om Unit's propels those experiments straight far into the future.
