Odeal Delivers His Yearly Parcel Of Hypnotic Sounds On 'OVMBR: Maybe I'm Best Alone'
South London's Odeal returns with his yearly promise of an EP each November; last year he blew us away with the slinky OVMBR: Hits No Mrs and he keeps things short and incredibly sweet again in OVMBR: Maybe I'm Best Alone.
With complete trust in his abilities, the production dances around Afro-R&B but isn't confined to those sounds, floating wherever it feels right. "Index" is an easy-going opener with its pulsing bassline guiding Odeal's mildly salacious lyricism. "Live Laugh Love" follows on, incorporating dramatic strings and free-form trumpet melodies.
Production comes in from PB, QisRetired, Geno, Budee, Aifo, and Alex Custus. There's also a self-produced moment on closing track "Twenny-Nine After Two" where intricate drums run wild over restricted piano chords while Odeal lays down his mouth-watering melodies, giving away small details of his romantic escapades.
OVMBR: Maybe I'm Best Alone arrives a while after his double-release "PDF" / "Be Free" and is a statement to his unlimited flow of creativity. Hit play on his new release below.
