Novelist Tackles The Effects Of Gun Violence In Powerful Short Film "No Weapons"

July 31, 2019

Novelist originally released "No Weapons" back in 2018 with his choppy, simplified flow gliding over the punchy, grimey stylings of Prem's production. Now, over a year later, he's revisited the track, creating a short film alongside BLOK and in association with The Prince's Trust to convey the effects of gun violence which has become a national epidemic.

The film reveals a heartbreaking narrative of the effects of gun violence through a teenager and how that impacts those around him, including his family and friends. In the process, it makes the audience aware of the wider implications of being involved in situations like the one seen in the film and doesn't shy away from the far reaching consequences said actions can produce. Meanwhile, the Lewisham MC appears throughout spraying his bars in different scenes and locations.

Speaking about the film, Novelist said: "I trusted BLOK to create a visual representation of 'No Weapons' and to tell the common story of war on the streets of London and the reality that death is often as a result of bad decisions. I was shaken after they showed me the final edit; it's a truly moving film with a very important and powerful message."
