Novelist has had a phenomenal year, with his debut album Novelist Guy (released and produced independently by him) becoming Mercury Prize nominated, putting him in a position that he had previously never been in in regards to commercial opportunities. However, throughout all this he has still maintained his DIY energy and enthusiasm for grime.

It'll be interesting then to see what he cooks up next year, after revealing he had been in the studio with in-demand producer Sevaqk and talented rap newcomer Flohio. But until we get our hands on that, the Lewisham MC has revealed a new track entitled "Calm" in which he talks about overcoming obstacles, his religion and his dedication to his path. Over an eerie beat, Nov raps with conviction and a tight flow, suggesting that next year we should expect him to up the levels even more.
