Master Peace Uses A Soulful Reggae Sound To Celebrate Love And Blackness On "Regular Feelings"

Never one to play to your expectations, Master Peace is back with his brand new single "Regular Feelings" and this time he's opted for a sound that takes in reggae, soul and pop.

This isn't the first time we've been treated to his singing chops; his last single was a melody-rich piece of funk with SG Lewis and before that he was knocking out soulful melodies with Jme and Sophie DeMasi. This time, however, the South Londoner is the star of the show, backed by a light and breezy, guitar-led instrumental.

"After 'Night Time', I wanted to drop something that people wouldn't expect," he explained. "I love reggae music as it's the music my parents used to play me growing up so I wanted to make a tune that spoke to that heritage but in a way that's also very British like the music UB40 and those guys used to make. I think it's a song that's going to make a lot of people smile!"

The new single, which is the first to be heard from his debut EP Love Bites, also comes with some sunny visuals courtesy of director Reece Selvadorai. In it we see Master Peace and his friend Savannah Small basking in the sun as they celebrate their love, their Blackness and each other.

"For the music video, Savannah grew out her natural hair and that is important as normally young black actresses are told to cut their hair or cover it up," he adds. "I think the Black Lives Matter movement has highlighted how important it is that as young Black people we should embrace our Blackness and express ourselves without being told what to do."
