Marci Phonix Looks Back Through Grime History On "I'm Not A Moot"

August 05, 2020

Marci Phonix may be known to some as the MC who decimated Kwasi Kwarteng in a debate on Channel 4 News, but to true grime heads he's an MC whose decades-long experience has helped sculpt grime's trajectory.

On that subject, his latest single, "I'm Not A Moot", he touches on some of the pivotal moments from the scene's development and educates the less-informed about his contributions. As Phonix explains on Instagram, even the title is a nod to the past, referencing an often-misquoted Dizzee lyric.

Produced by Trooh Hippi, "I'm Not A Moot" also comes with some nostalgic visuals from director L Dubzy who stitches together footage of Phonix stomping through the late night streets with some solid gold clips from grime's early years, finishing with a touching tribute to the late, great Stormin.
