Back with another slice of nostalgic hip-hop and hazy, lo-fi soundscapes, Lord Apex's latest project sees him link up with Spanish producer Cookin Soul for Off The Strength, and it's a massive nod to his craftsmanship.

With a run-time of just under 30 minutes, Lord Apex packs each minute with a combination of poetic bars and unreserved flows, sharing stories of his inner world and observations of his environment. We briefly snap out of the boom-bap production style in "M.I.M.S", which pulls from modern trap influences and is one of the moments that shows how versatile the West London rapper can be whenever he chooses.

Apex and Cookin Soul also tuck brief snippets of vintage cartoon/TV show samples in small pockets across the project, the same playful storytelling layers that can be spotted on Outkast's Aquemini album and DOOM's Operation: Doomsday.

Off The Strength is a collaborative joint between two musicians taking advantage of their eclectic mix of influences from the past and present to deliver a significant moment in rap music. Dig in below.
