Ling Hussle Continues To Blur The Lines Between Rap And R&B On 'Spirit Soul'

May 27, 2020

Up until now South London's Ling Hussle has been primarily known as a singer occupying a realm of R&B that overlaps with rap and club music. With her new project, Spirit Soul, recently unleashed upon the world we've got her most rap-influenced to date.

Though Ling Hussle's love affair with rap is nothing new — her last two projects, 22 and Hussle X Dreams, saw her find a vocal style that blurred the lines between the two — on Spirit Soul we finally get a chance to say her let loose as a rapper.

The club influence still surges through the production too thanks to producers Maschinemantim, Vianey OJ, Junior, Levi Flye, Maxwell Bounce, Wisdom, Case Beatz, Joshroach, Supahmario, Sybrxwn. The finished result is an expansive 17-track collection that takes in moments of golden era R&B ("On The Way"), OVO-esque rap ("Fake Love"), trap-tinged club sounds ("Revenge") and post-club moodiness ("Deep End") — and plenty more besides.
