Lil Silva Unveils Debut Album 'Yesterday Is Heavy' f/ Ghetts, Sampha, Little Dragon & More

July 15, 2022

Bedford-bred producer Lil Silva cut his teeth in his early days, first with grime outfit Macabre Unit and then with his boundary-pushing UK funky productions. Since then, he's been in a continuous loop of reinventing his production abilities, constantly pushing his sound into new territories, while still keeping one foot in the club.

Today, his debut album, Yesterday Is Heavy, arrives in all its glory. The new release follows a series of tasters, including "Another Sketch", "Backwards" featuring Sampha, "What If" and "Leave It" with Skiifall and Charlotte Day Wilson respectively, and an appearance from BADBADNOTGOOD on "To The Floor". For the rest of the features, it's a mix of old friends and a couple of new faces, including Little Dragon, serpentwithfeet, Ghetts, and Elmeine, with Benji B stepping in as executive producer.

For the duration of 44 minutes, we float between a number of transcendental, formless reflections of roots, identity, and relationships. Silva taps into his soundbank of influences, piecing together a range of styles from ambient soul to grime and even borrowing some heavy basslines from house music to shape his stories as he shares whatever thoughts rise to the surface.
