Kwoli Black Demands To Be Heard On New EP 'Can I Speak'

March 22, 2024

The alternative hip-hop of Kwoli Black continues to evolve and impress. The rapper has dropped Can I Speak, a six-track project that unpacks the psyche and headspace of the artist and delivers it as a musical odyssey.

Can I Speak features South London soulstress BINA and talented singer-songwriter Karl Benjamin and is executively produced by Ojerime collaborator JSTRNGS. Although the EP journeys through different moods and sonic territories, exploring vulnerability, confidence and insight, it all comes together as an impressively coherent listen.

Speaking on the visual, Kwoli calls it "a satirical take on how therapy feels. The pervasiveness, the awkwardness and discomfort that comes from having to address what you're feeling and the trauma you're facing. The video shows what healing is about—discomfort (talk show), catharsis (spotlight scene) and eventual joy to come (70s disco scene)".
