Krept & Konan Went To Parliament To Discuss Why The Government Should Stop Trying To "Ban Drill"

June 19, 2019

Last week saw Krept & Konan reveal "Ban Drill", the first track from their upcoming sophomore album. The song was accompanied by a Rapman-directed short film, which you can view at the bottom, with the premiere including a panel with the likes of Headie One, Civil Rights lawyer Jude Bunting, George The Poet, Faron Alex Paul and Rapman, discussing the issues raised in the track and short film.

Speaking about the track, the Croydon duo said that they "wrote 'Ban Drill' to explain a serious reality that many artists have to face. We knew that Rapman was the perfect person to paint this picture for us with a short film in the way we needed to get our message across."

Not content with just raising awareness about the unfair treatment of drill within UK media and the knock-on effect it has on the artists and their local communities, the rappers were then invited by Diane Abbott MP to attend the Houses Of Parliament last night to further address these issues in a place where change can be made. This Is Grime author Hattie Collins hosted a panel with Krept & Konan, Skengdo & AM and Channel 4 reporter Symeon Brown to further continue the discussion, talking about the police and CPS' continued efforts to target drill rappers.

In addition to this, Krept & Konan have also teamed up with Change.org to launch a petition asking the Crown Prosecution Service to stop the police from being able to ban drill music by using the Serious Crime Act to prosecute artists. You can sign that petition here.
