Joy Crookes Shares Title Track From Newly-Announced Debut Album 'Skin'

August 09, 2021

Following on from "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" in June, Joy Crookes is already back with a new single as well as news of her first full-length album, Skin.

Ahead of the new album, which drops in October, Crookes has revealed the album's title track. A feel-good soul-stirrer, her voice is as huge and room-filling as ever, and with the world in the state it's in, her message of hope and resilience is both timely and welcome.

In the press release, she reveals just how personal the track is to her: "Out of all the songs I have ever written I think 'Skin' is the most important to me. It is simple musically and lyrically, the lyrics are literal and self explanatory: 'The skin that you're given, was made to be lived in. You've got a life, you've got a life, worth living'."

"It exists for anyone who needs reassurance and hope. Mental health is something everyone has to deal with to varying degrees, and in particular the last 18 months have taken their toll. I wrote this song for a loved one last year who was at a stage where he thought his life was no longer worth living. I hope the song offers something to everyone battling with their demons and the people around them who are supporting them."

Skin lands October 15. In the meantime, dip into the title track below.

Updated on August 11: the official video has now landed.
