6 Figure Gang's Jossy Mitsu Announces Debut EP With Warehouse Thumper "1997"

February 18, 2021

Birmingham-born Rinse resident and 6 Figure Gang member Jossy Mitsu recently made the announcement that she'd soon be releasing her debut EP, Planet J, through Astral Black, a label she's been working with closely for a few years now.

The full EP arrives next Friday, February 26, but to tide us over in the meantime she's lifted the lid on keystone track "1997". Informed by the complex patchwork that is UK underground rave culture, everything from vintage acid house to garage to industrial techno can be heard seeping its way into the new extract — not unlike her ever-excellent DJ mixes and radio shows.

Speaking on what influenced the track, Jossy Mitsu explained: "'1997' was made in the height of summer with the nostalgia of London warehouse parties in mind. The '90s vocal, soulful pads and bouncing bass are all about feel-good energy but are balanced by the rumbling kick and industrial hits. My house/techno style is very much inspired by my love for producers Head High and Shanti Celeste."

While you wait for the rest of the EP, tune in to "1997" below.
