Joel Culpepper Shines On Tom Misch-Produced "Free"
Soul singer Joel Culpepper shares "Free", a new single produced by his good friend Tom Misch.
The smooth new song marks a triumphant return after a two-year hiatus from releasing solo music. It seems as if he's been storing away that soul in that time, not willing to open it to the world until it had reached optimal levels. On "Free", Culpepper moves at his own pace, refusing to be rushed as he explores the concept of freedom as he sees it or wants it to be seen.
Although a gifted multi-instrumentalist, it's clear that Tom Misch is particularly effective with a guitar. Tapping into his patented laid-back soul sound, Misch scores a natural chemistry with Culpepper. According to Misch's latest Instagram post, that creative connection is an extension of their real-life friendship.
Misch writes: "I discovered Joel's music a few years back and I remember thinking, 'Damn, I love this guy's voice... full of soul and grit.'
"Since then, we've become close friends and spent much of last year on tour together. I've probably spent more time with Joel than anyone else over the last couple of years, whether it be on tour, climbing mountains, or making him come surfing with me, and it's been a beautiful relationship."
"Free" is the first track of Culpepper's upcoming EP, which is said to be produced entirely by Misch, and it's set a very high bar for the project. While we wait for more details on the EP, hit play on "Free" below.
