Jim Legxacy Plants His Flag With Love Letter To 'black british music'

July 18, 2025

Lewisham-hailing talent Jim Legxacy is here with his new mixtape, black british music, his first since signing to XL Recordings.

A celebration of exactly what it says on the tin, black british music is his most impressive and ambitious project to date, broadening its scope to pull together a loving collage of all the disparate sounds that influence him, from the melodic crunch of "new david bowie" to indie-rock on "wayne rooney 06".

The 15-track project contains just three collaborations, and they perfectly represent the different facets. Fimiguerrero plays to Jim's mellow side on "sun", there's a long overdue collab with dexter in the newsagent on the deeply soulful "dexters phone call", and then there's Dave's cameo on "3x", which also got a video last night. BBM has been eagerly anticipated by Jim's growing legion of fans. Last year, after a quiet spell, he released "nothings changed (!)", a heartbreaking tribute to his late sister that left Legxacy fans in stunned silence. His first ever show at The Albany in Deptford soon followed, and with that came a slew of new music.

The song "aggressive" was the first taste of the set, followed by videos for "father" and "stick", the latter of which he premiered on PlaqueBoyMax's livestream alongside YT, Fimiguerrero and Len. BBM follows Jim's 2019 debut EP, Dynasty Program: A Metrical Composition Inspired By The Nights Spent As The Raiider, and then the Citadel tape, which he released while battling homelessness, followed by last year's superb homeless n*gga pop music.

Peep the visuals for "3x" below, and stream BBM on the flip.
