JGrrey Honours '80s Japanese Horror Films With Self-Directed "Down" Video

April 08, 2021

It was all the way back in October when JGrrey dropped her last single, "Doubt Nothing", but she's now back with the video for her new single "Down", teaming up once again with frequent collaborator Owen Cutts for an uplifting, free-wheeling neo-soul jam.

For the visuals, the South London singer takes the director's chair, paying tribute to the '80s Japanese horror films she loves so much. Soaked in bright pinks, purples and oranges, it's got a grainy, almost degraded quality that feels like you've stumbled upon a lost VHS gem plucked from the depths of cinematic obscurity.

JGrrey elaborates on the single and visual: "I'd like to take credit for making "Down", but actually... I think the song just happened to me at a time I needed it. I directed the music video and JAW produced and collaborated on it with me."
