It was just over six months ago that North London's JayO released his debut single, "XO", but he's been on a vertical incline ever since.

His latest is "22", a gentle blend of R&B and Afrobeats that has exploded in popularity. He started teasing snippets of the track on social media back in January and by the time of release, fans were beside themselves.

He started writing the track using just his phone and a headphone mic, gradually fleshing the track out over time. For the instrumental, he melds an R&B piano riff and a gentle Afrobeats rhythm to back his smooth songwriting that veers playfully between cockiness and seduction.
