Jaguar Launches Future1000 To Bring More Women, Trans And Non-Binary People Into Electronic Music

Radio 1 selector Jaguar is on a mission to shake up the demographics in British dance music. Like a lot of things, it's an overwhelmingly male-dominated world, so she's decided to do something about it by creating the Future1000 initiative alongside Future DJs, an educational group whose previous successes include getting DJing added to the curriculum.

The 12-part digital course offers 1,000 under-18s training in production, mixing and more. No previous knowledge or equipment is needed for the course, which will involve artist-led workshop sessions and online modules created with tutors from the London College of Music Education (LCME).

Speaking on how she hopes the course will change the industry, she explains: "Our hope for equality lies in the next generation and that's why Future1000 will help improve gender diversity and representation at the very start of young people's journeys into music, at a time when access to opportunities and inclusivity is most critical.

"My own experience of coming up in the industry, and often being the only girl in the room, has motivated me to make a change for others from similar backgrounds, and I hope that Future1000 helps to show young girls, trans and non-binary people what they're capable of."
