J Spades Is Back On His 'Winter Grind' With Second Project Of The Year

December 16, 2019

influential rapper J Spades is back with Winter Grind, a nine-track project that sees the East Londoner explore a range of different sounds and styles. Impressively, this comes just six months after the fourth volume of his More Money More Pagans mixtape series.

J Spades opens the project with the trap-leaning "Run It Up", bringing in elements of grime, dancehall and more into the steely rap framework, culminating in the slower, more chilled vibes of closing track "Yeah Yeah".

Features-wise, Smoke Boys' Deepee steps in for sentimental cut "My Gyal", in which they both open up about the women of their dreams. Meanwhile, R&B singer Abel Miller, the hitmaker of choice for pretty much all of your favourite rappers, joins him on "B.A.P" to dish out a smooth and melodic chorus to balance out the energy that pulses through the album.

A shining example of J Spades' lyrical capability, Winter Grind reminds us why he's one of the UK rap game's most respected OGs. Get stuck into it below.
