Oxford-Based Music Mentors In-Spire Sounds Launch Student-Led Compilation 'In The Mix: Volume 1'

June 17, 2026

Youth music organisation In-Spire Sounds has just released a new 12-track project, In The Mix: Volume 1, a 12-strong project of tracks created entirely by attendees of the programme.

Run by director Kingsley Pratt-Boyden, In-Spire Sounds has been running for a little while now and their ethos revolves around bringing in young people who have been left out of mainstream education. For the students, music is a key outlet and has helped empower them and uncover hidden talents.

They're getting a top flight musical education too, mentored and tutored by professional musicians, including Kemastry, a rapper signed to High Focus Records, youth worker Sam Mansell, who has worked with Adobe, Warner Music, Soho House, the University of Oxford and the BBC; and music producer Evolucian, who has been releasing UK hip-hop on the label Gold On The Mixer for over a decade.

The past 12 months have been huge for the whole In-Spire Sounds outfit. They just became accredited as Alternative Education Providers, and last year they moved into a massive new premises in Oxford city centre, which all told is about 15 times larger than its the makeshift studio they used to occupy.

The young artists featured on the tracklist are all attendees of the programme's Alternative Provision and Inspiring Change Through Music sessions, which gave them the tools to write, perform, and record their music under the guidance of professional producers.

Kingsley "King" Boyden, Director of In-Spire Sounds CIC shares: "In school they can learn music theory, but at In-Spire Sounds they learn creativity. "We provide a structured, safe space where young people can build confidence, develop skills and see a future for themselves."

"Our ultimate goal with the alternative provision is for young people not to need us anymore. If they don't need us anymore, that's success. Accreditation means we can now combine creative development with recognised qualifications, giving participants tangible progression routes. And In The Mix is what that looks like in practice, a record made entirely by the young people who come through our doors."

Available via Bandcamp, the compilation spans a broad spread of sounds, from hip-hop and R&B to various strains of electronic music. Hit play on the comp below.
