This year, Idris Elba is making his directorial debut with a film called Yardie, based on the cult novel by Victor Headley. 

Taking place between Kingston, Jamaica, and London, the film tells the story of a young man growing up in Kingston before moving to Hackney and finding himself swept up gang violence. The film also follows his path into music and the struggle between the two worlds.

North London actor and Sense8 star Aml Ameen will play protagonist D, while This Is England and Boardwalk Empire actor Stephen Graham will play London gangster Rico. It has also been reported that Elba will be appearing in front of the camera as well.
