Hit-Making Grime Producer Kid D Turns His Attention To The Rap Game With "Take Me Away"

February 05, 2020

Best known for his immersive 'mature grime' productions for the likes of Wiley, Skepta and Devlin, Kid D has taken the rap game into his own hands with his new song "Take Me Away".

The track, out February 5, serves as the lead single from his forthcoming, genre-straddling debut EP Substance, featuring guest contributions from Novelist and Ghetts, among others. Many people say that producers make the best rappers and Kid D seems to have reinforced this idea with his soul-infused debut rap track.

Kid D's experienced and cultured ear is prominent throughout the self-produced "Take Me Away" as he floats over the instrumental, identifying pockets in areas in which only a true music lover would appreciate. Effortlessly demonstrating his abilities as a wordsmith, he performs his inspiring and self-conscious lyrics without wasting a bar.

The use of piano keys is accompanied by touching female vocals which amplify the emotive nature of the song, once again giving the listener an insight into the precision and classiness of Kid D's ear. If "Take Me Away" is to serve as an introduction to Kid D on the mic, then we can only expect more genius and artistry from the Lewisham local.
