HERITAGE: Wyclef Jean Shares Meets With Hackney Rapper Bronz On Channel 4's 'Chancers' (2004)
Way back in the early 2000s, long before X Factor's rise to dominance, talent shows were a much smaller affair. Our American cousins had Making The Band, a show focused around putting together the next big boyband, and we had Chancers, a Channel 4 equivalent that sought out the next generation of rappers and emcees.
In the clip below, taken from the first series, Hackney rapper Bronz meets with Wyclef Jean. The point of the meeting was for up-and-comer Bronz to show Wyclef what he was capable of and the two would sit down and work together. Unfortunately, Wyclef inadvertently offended Bronz by expressing surprise that there were inner city crime issues in the UK—a reminder of the sometimes less-than-respectful attitude UK artists faced from their US counterparts.
Bronz himself had already built up a healthy amount of buzz in East London and beyond, so we suspect he might've been okay without the advice. Regardless, check out the rest of the series online (somehow) because a lot of raw talent passed through both series.
