HERITAGE: UK Bass Queen Katy B Gives Belgium's Club 69 Some Funky House Flavours With Her Classic Song "Lights On" (2011)

A graduate of the school of Rinse FM, Katy B is quite possibly their biggest breakout star. Now three albums deep into her career and every one of them has yielded chart success for her. Today we're going back to her 2011 debut, On A Mission.

The bulk of the writing and production on the album came from writers DJ Zinc, Benga, and Rinse founder Geeneus. Of the five singles to come from the album, three of them smashed their way straight to the top 10 in the UK singles charts — "Katy On A Mission", "Broken Record" and "Lights On" — and here she is performing the latter to a packed out Belgian crowd in Belgium.

A certified UK bubbler, the original version of "Lights On" was a bouncy UK funky cut with Ms. Dynamite joining her on vocals, but here Katy translates it for the live setting with a full live band who add just a dash of funk and jazz to proceedings. With all the extra energy from the band, you almost don't notice Ms. Dynamite's absence.
