HERITAGE: The Late Virgil Abloh Spotlights Grime And Classic UK Bangers During This Iconic Boiler Room Set (2015)

Back in the mid-2010s, when Brexit was just a threat and Trump's presidency was little more than a concerning meme, it's hard to deny that things were pretty great. Not perfect, but pretty close.

UK and US music was going through an exciting period were ideas were being exchanged freely and we were finally starting to let go of the idea of calling everyone a culture vulture. Grime was still loved on both sides of the Atlantic, the UK rap scene was bubbling up in Giggs' slipstream, and UK drill was just starting to make a few noises on the peripheries.

Drake and Kanye had famously made significant overtures to the UK, giving kudos to our grime stars and throwing their weight behind the scene to help it thrive. But outside of music, fashion designer and all-round creative Virgil Abloh was just as enthusiastic with his appreciation for UK music and culture.

Here he is, as Flat White, manning the decks for a set that celebrated a time when New York rap, grime, trap, UK rap and drill were all mixing it up together. Look out for gems from More Fire Crew, Kano, Dizzee and an early Stormzy anthem rubbing up against Travis Scott, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Drake, and Young Thug.
